Pair: ECC83 made by Matsushita, Japan ; December 1966
This is a pair ECC83 produced by Matsushita in Japan with Philips/Mullard machinery. That is why they are also referred to as the Japanese Mullard. The tubes have slanted halo getters, see pictures. The date codes 6L are clearly visible and indicate December 1966 as production date. These tubes were used in famous amp’s like Luxman, Sansui AU111 en the tube amplifier from Pioneer in the sixties Very healthy tubes with good specs; see test results.

Matsushita
In 1952 Konosuke Matsushita signs a technical cooperation and licensing agreement with Philips in the Netherlands. As a result Matsushita obtained it’s tooling, tube technology and materials from Philips. A lot of Matsushita tubes look like Philips and Mullard tubes at 1st glance. It should therefore come as no surprise that Matsushita made some excellent tubes. Matsushita tube production started in 1953 and ended in 1979. The circular Matsushita logo changed in about 1969 to a triangle.
In the sixties until 1969 the short plate EECC83 versions had slanted halo getters exclusively; thereafter they were often “horizontal” on a rod like most others, but some were canted in the early ’70s.
Sonics
The excellent sounding tube is sometimes underrated; I refer to the threads on the web for more information. Excellent sounding (close to Mullard), low noise, very smooth extended highs. Balanced and smooth sounding with liquid midrange, recommended!
