Description
Rare Telefunken ECC82 German army tubes; no signs of use!
This pair Telefunken ECC82 is a made in the Mullard plant in Blackburn, UK. When Telefunken of Western Germany closed their production factories they still had a demand of high grade tubes for the German army. Where better then to source an alternative from the Mullard plant in Blackburn, UK? And from this plant they chose the Gf2 version ECC82; one of the finest ECC82. To comply the very strict specification of the ECC82, Telefunken has undoubtedly used selected versions of the ECC82 only. I offer this pair for a lucky audiophile to enjoy!
The etch code Gf2 B 9C3 on the glass indicates that the pair was manufactured in Blackburn in March 1969. The tubes have grey plates a round halo getter on copper post. The pair has excellent test values that match the factory specification very well and balanced systems. The properties of this tube are widely known. I refer to the many threads on the web for more information.
Sonics
The overall sound character of British made tubes is warm and lively with a very spacious sound stage. The top end is silky and pleasant and doesn’t get rolled off. They retain a fine sense of “air” at the top, and the upper midrange is smooth and liquid. These tubes reproduce the human voice, especially female voices, with impressive realism. They are also known for a rich bass. With respect to the previous these long plate Mullard ECC82’s are no exception.
Excellent valve, low noise, low microphony, warm timbre and excellent sound stage. Balanced and warm sounding with liquid midrange, specially recommended for “thin” sounding systems!
Note: if your system is to “warm” already, this tube is not a first choice. ECC82 tubes from Philips, Valvo or Siemens & Halske are to be considered in that situation.
Test method & results
The tubes have been tested carefully with the official Telefunken test set-up and our sophisticated test equipment. Please read our testmethod for the ECC82 tube family.
The measurement data below show that both systems are matched and balanced. And fulfill the factory specs of a new/NOS tube.
