Description

ECC83  Mullard square getter, long plate; made in January 1958 by Mullard UK.

Description

This is a ECC83 double triode that is produced by Mullard in Blackburn UK. The tube has a square getter, copper grid posts and long plates (Version f91; introduced immediately after the mC1-series), see pictures. The tube is manufactured in Januari 1958. The tube is assumed to be NOS !; no internal signs of use at all. Very healthy tube with NOS specs and perfect matching systems; see test results.

Note. Normally the f91 version has a goal post halo getter, whereas the mC1 has the famous square getter. This tube is produced in January 1958, immediately after the switch from mC1 to f91. Apparently the interior of this tube is still of a mC1 tube!

Sonics

The early Mullard ECC83, is highly regarded; delivers space and transparency. I refer to the many threads on the web for more information. Excellent preamp valve, low noise, very smooth extended highs, very good in phono stages. Balanced and smooth sounding with liquid midrange, recommended!

Note from the web: “The overall tonality of Mullard ECC83 tubes is warm and lively with a very spacious sound stage. “Like a warm British jacket of the finest tweed, these glorious tubes have an attractive sweet warmth in their midrange and lower regions.”  This is how the experts on audiotubes.com describe the sound signature of British-made Mullard tubes. The top end is silky and pleasant and doesn’t get rolled off. They retain a fine sense of “air” at the top, and the upper midrange is smooth and liquid. These tubes reproduce the human voice, especially female voices, with haunting realism. The British made Mullard tubes are also known to have an attractive sparkle at the top with rich bass…now we know where that “warm British jacket” comes from!
