Description

ECC83 Philips Miniwatt/Valvo D-foil getter, long plates, made in October 1954 the Valvo factories in Hamburg Germany.

Description

This  ECC83 tube is produced in the Valvo factories in Hamburg Germany. Please note that Philips Miniwatt (Heerlen Holland) and Valvo (Hamburg Germany) often used each other’s valves. In fact, Valvo is one of the Philips factories with their own production line. The tube is produced in October 1954 (60 years ago!). The tube has a tilted D-foil getter, copper grid posts and long ribbed grey plates, see pictures. The tube is in good condition! Very healthy tube with good specs! And with matching systems; see test results.

Sonics

The long plate D-foil ECC83 tubes are considered as the best of the best; “they bring the concerthal to your room”; deliver an open holographic sound stage with transparency and detail. I refer to the many threads on the web for more information. Excellent preamp valve, low noise, very smooth extended highs, very good in phono stages. Balanced and smooth sounding with liquid midrange, recommended!

Note from the web:  The pre sixties long plates from Valvo Hamburg ECC83 is highly regarded by serious classical listeners looking to improve sound quality. Very transparent and open sound with impressive speed and phenomenal high end extension, accurate bass as intended by the original recording. Overall neutral to warm sounding. The top end is silky and pleasant and doesn’t get rolled off. And a fine sense of “air” at the top. This mC-version is slightly warmer and fuller than the clear/neutral Heerlen Holland version; more like the Siemens & Halske Germany ECC83 mC-version.
