Sonics
The overall sound character of British tubes is warm and lively with a very spacious soundstage. The top is silky soft and pleasant and does not roll off. They retain a nice sense of “air” at the top end, and the upper mids are smooth and fluid. This tube class reproduces the human voice, including female voices in complex choral pieces, with impressive realism. In addition, they are also known for rich bass. I refer to the many threads on the web for more information.
The mid sixties Mullard ECC82 more than meets the previous description; the sound is even more natural and more intimate; the soundstage seems to be expanded in all three dimensions, the vocal reproduction is second to none.
Excellent preamp valve and because of the low noise level , very suitable in phono stages.
Note: if your system is “warm sounding’ or to “warm” already, this tube is not a first choice. ECC82 tubes of Philips,
Valvo, Siemens or Telefunken are to be considered in that situation.
